    Costco shoppers

I was incredulous when I saw that the women checking out in front of us had a tab of $476. No clothing, household items or alcohol - just lots of prepared meals, packaged foods and bottled water. Store was packed with everyone's baskets full to the brim most likely with similar receipts. Recession?

I know I purchased a few things in case the prices went up or were later unavailable. Not much into prepared meals, though.

I'm stocking up on sambal oelek. Looks like there's a shortage looming.

Huy Fong is having trouble sourcing chilis. Weather related, I think. I'll cast about for an article.

The halt in production applies to Huy Fong’s signature Sriracha hot chili sauce as well as its Chili Garlic and Sambal Oelek products.

Before I heard about huy fung’s difficulties I had purchased a large jug of Sriracha and also of Chile garlic sauce. Once either of them gets down to half I will be looking for replacements.

I've never developed a taste for sriracha, but I'm seriously addicted to their other chili products. Now I'm wondering about generic chili oil's future.

Whole villages in Alaska shop at Costco in Anchorage AK and ship back home.

We find it hard to get out of Costco for less than $100 and it is just the two of us. Too many impulse buys. I have stopped going there without a specific need. My issue is they discontinue the products we like and get in "test" products that are not very good.

We went to Costco on Sunday and spent a grand total of $245., but almost half was on stuff for Mom, and we had reduced our trips to every other month during the height of Covid, so the spending per trip is more.

I haven't belonged to Costco for a few years but my recollection is of long lines with carts loaded with stuff. I think some commercial operations buy supplies there. So I don't know if or how much any recession might affect things, although technically we are not in a recession yet.
