I need to buy a couple of garage door openers just like this one. We have only one to our city condo and we need more than that. Plus this one is old and getting ready to break. What do I called his thing and how do I get one like this?

That is called a remote. It probably has a brand name on it somewhere, although it may be a generic remote programmed to work with a specific opener. I would take a look at the actual opener, write down it's make and model and then do a google search for a remote that works with that model.

Also, maybe pop it open and see if there's an internal label with model numbers on it.
