I love watching American politics! There’s never a dull moment.
Trump’s kingmaking prowess certainly seems in question, with so many of his picks going down in defeat. His current best frenemy seems to have decisively painted Florida red. The Orange man’s got his best people working on playground insults.
On the Democrat side Beto may have set a record by failing in presidential, senate and gubernatorial bids within the space of a few years. Stacy Abrams can add to her portfolio of grievances, perhaps blaming misogynistic alien space lizards. What a magnificent cash bonfire.
The red wave having seen to have been more of a trickle, calling the poll-takers’ art into question. Makes me glad I hung up on them all those times.
With Johnson eking out a victory over Barnes in Wisconsin, control of the Senate is now up to the results in Nevada, Arizona and Georgia. We may be prolonging the drama until December 6.
The House is still up in the air, no doubt with dramatic recounts and lawsuits to look forward to.
As close as things are, we can expect everyone to double down on their prior positions. No matter who comes out on top, I suspect democracy’s doomsday will now be rescheduled for 2024.
Nice summary, LDAHL.
I'm glad there wasn't much drama around all of this (so far). I agree with IL, that no one can be particularly disappointed. Is that what unity is?

Massachusetts got even more super blue. For moderates like myself Vermont is now looking good in comparison, and of course New Hampshire, which kept moderate Democrats over far right Trumpian Republicans.

A friend who we worked with campaigning for Bernie back in Michigan overturned a Michigan rep seat from a two term Republican! So happy for her, as she starts her new role as a Michigan State Representative in Lansing!
I had no doubt Florida would become even more Republican. I’m very glad Trump has lost influence and many election deniers were shunned. The red Tsunami did not occur and I believe many Republicans are sick of Trump.
going forward I hope both parties get it together. Disagree with healthcare, immigration, “entitlements”? Work on passing legislation in line with our constitution.
I hope in 2024 we have good strong Democrat and Republican candidates who want to work on actual problems and move us forward.
And that’s the situation almost everywhere in the country. The world keeps turning the day after the election. The beauty of democracy, despite what the true believers will tell you, is that there are no permanent victories.
The people trapped in a jihadi mindset may call you a turncoat if you vote for a single candidate of the infidel party, but the quieter real world carries on in a frustratingly apocalypse-free manner.
