Herbgeek, how are you using the micro greens? Any tips on growing them? I’ve seen little trays with some type of pads to sprout the seeds but know little about it.

I grow microgreens in little trays on coconut-mat pads with the seeds ready to go. I've been doing so since early 2020, and it's nice to have little bits of fresh greens always handy to drop into ramen or a sandwich or omelette.

That said, my sister produces microgreens on a small-commercial scale and has racks and trays and a much cheaper source of seeds/growth media than the toy version I use. I will get some pointers from her once I run out of mats.

I do it differently than what i usually see, following the method in Year Round Salad Gardening by Peter Burke. https://www.amazon.com/Year-Round-In.../dp/1603586156

Basically, I grow seeds in disposable bread pans in about 12 days. No grow lights needed or any special equipment. Seeds are soaked overnight. I put kelp and compost in the bottom of foil bread pans with soil mix on top. Press the seeds in. Cover with soaked newspaper, put into a warm place for about 4-5 days, then put on a windowsill for some more. I cut them off at soil level, and compost the soil. Can be made into a salad, but I usually just add to them to a lettuce salad.

Sunday Morning show just had a piece on microgreens and the guy(s) who apparently started it all. LOL.

Yes, I saw that! Loved this week's Sunday Morning.. the piece about the Indian guy whose immigrant Mom made mango pie for Thanksgiving every year brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks for all the tips. Aerogarden.com has quite a few units on sale right now. Much cheaper than Amazon. I have some books I took out of the library to read as well.
