Frugal-one: We are having one of those swaps in our Clay School class. I would be excited about getting rid of a couple of things, if not for the knowledge that I will receive a couple of things in return (probably more horrible things, but then certainly easy to part with and donate). At least we are not supposed to buy anything. I hate swaps where you are supposed to buy something for around $10, since that feels more like I'm contributing to additional crap for the planet to absorb. Plus I usually spend more to get something that is actually decent and always get something truly horrific in return, so it's just such a waste of time, energy and money.

yes, for our Bingo game it was suggested we bring “small gifts around $5” as it is a very old fashioned event we’ve been doing for years. Ugh yeah, I was not going to the dollar store to buy cheap crap from China for this event.

I live in a tiny town and there are no good plant related things I could buy in this, the winter season. So, I thought OK – one thing I can do is to make a vendor here in town happy even if I am not happy about buying something. We have a chocolate shop that has good in house made wares, and it’s expensive. So I spent $20 on two small boxes of chocolates for our prizes.
consumable, locally made, so a win. But expensive.

I exchange gifts with very few people because no one needs more stuff. If I had grandkids I would be singing a different tune).

One year at a Christmas exchange requiring $5 be spent….I got salsa and chips. I loved it. We are invited for Christmas where up to a $10 food item is to be exchanged. I haven’t looked around yet.

A good item gift exchange is a super idea. I would bring a pound of coffee, I think. Maybe say under 10 these days--just because everything is over 5 now in the stores.

Today we had three separate package deliveries to our house. One was a US post office delivery. The second one was FedEx. Two hours later, the FedEx truck came by to deliver a third thing. Honestly, I almost started crying. I shop for the stuff I want and I’ll order it. I don’t want people sending me more crap. The second package was soooooo unnecessary, And I don’t know how to dispose of it.The third package was… Consumable so I guess we’ll eat it but I just wish people would stop sending me stuff.

That is pretty much how a friend and I look at it. We're sending cards this year (and in years to come), and that's it. Ah, the freedom!

And this evening we had shipment number four come via yes, FedEx. So FedEx came three separate times to our house today and the US postal parcel service came once. This last shipment was something I had ordered so I can only blame myself.

I understand what you are saying. However, you are blessed that people care enough …. A blessing and a curse!

And door prizes are another thing. My hubby got a big one last night and we are donating the items to Habitat Restore. Funny thing is they might have come from Restore in the first place since the Xmas meeting dinner was for Habitat.

I ordered myself a pair of great scissors for Xmas that will allow me to get rid of several so so ones. Told hubby he has now taken care of Xmas.

Lots of porch thefts going on right now. Cameras allow posting of photos. Bold and dangerous people out there.
