    Yes, that's true, and why I would rather not get a knee replacement. Fear of a bad result.

    Exercise puts some strain on the joints and I believe Jane Fonda did plenty . All things in moderation.

    The thing about knee surgery and risk is it is a fairly safe operation but it has some slight risk, any surgery does. But I calmed myself for my mom's surgery (though it never was my decision of course but hers), by figuring yes there is a slight risk, but she might live longer because of it. And she might because she is now able to talk walks for exercise (just ordinary level walks around a few blocks, this is not climbing Everest). And that's probably living longer than being entirely sedentary due to being barely able to move in pain. There is also of course quality of life.

    That's great. It sounds like she made the right decision for her quality of life.
