I didn’t know the deceased diver personally, but he was the boss of my WI diving instructor who is a maritime archaeologist for the state. She was diving with him when this accident happened. He was a certified diver and certified for the depth. They were doing a normal workup dive before the field season started. He was very enthusiastic about the ancient Native American dugout canoes my instructor had found in 2021 and 2022. He also had perfect hair that made me smile every time I saw photos on instructor’s FB page. He seems to have been an awesome human. My instructor loved working with him. They had him less than two years and he could have really taken the program to new directions.
He did lots of online talks and such about the canoes and was always fun to listen to.
It’s very sad. His students from his time in IL absolutely loved him from what I’m seeing on FB.
