Trump 2024?

I wonder why Trump doesn't run as an independent. He has a lot of the Republican Party behind him but a lot aren't. He has a reliable following and doesn't need the infrastructure of the party He could split a vote and become a spoiler.

If you were to ask me 8 years ago if I thought he could win the Republican nomination I would have laughed. But he continues to astound at how much he can get away with and still amass a dedicated fandom. I fear that he will win another primary and winning the general election is definitely not out of reach. The idea of it makes me really worry about the state of the nation.

Indeed. But last night CNN ran a democratic party infomercial that, if used well by the democrats, will be a good starting point for an effective campaign. Combine that with there being 4 more years of solidly democratic voters who age in to voting AND 4 years' worth of solidly republican voters who will have aged out and the republicans face a tremendous uphill battle whether or not trump is the nominee. The 2004 election was the last time they won the popular vote and trump isn't doing anything to expand their base. At all. Except possibly the fact that he is smart enough to be cagey about his stance on abortion. None of the other potential republicans seem to realize how badly their stance on that issue is a losing stance with a strong majority of voters.

I understand neither the Biden nor Trump campaigns are planning to participate in primary debates. That way Biden won’t need to face the guy whose father’s speeches he used to plagiarize and Trump can stick with his divine right to rule stance.
