Trump 2024?

It's rare that I agree with anything trump has said. But this statement of his from July 2018 is something I can agree with:

"As the head of the executive branch and Commander in Chief, I have a unique, Constitutional responsibility to protect the Nation’s classified information, including by controlling access to it…. More broadly, the issue of [a former executive branch official’s] security clearance raises larger questions about the practice of former officials maintaining access to our Nation’s most sensitive secrets long after their time in Government has ended. Such access is particularly inappropriate when former officials have transitioned into highly partisan positions and seek to use real or perceived access to sensitive information to validate their political attacks. Any access granted to our Nation’s secrets should in furtherance of national, not personal, interests."

I wonder what the GOP will campaign on. Seems like usually it's been the economy or some war, neither of which appear too significant these days. Even gas seems slightly acceptable and inflation is relatively tame. No doubt there will be the usual demonizing of the dems and Biden's age. I think Pence mentioned something about entitlement revision, which sort of breaks down to Medicare and social security. Abortion doesn't seem too popular of an issue and there doesn't seem to be much on the table about taking people's guns and ammo away. Maybe defunding the DOJ?

I also think the push to move individual college debt to the general tax paying public won’t be all that popular with the general tax paying public. I don’t think that things are going so swimmingly under the Democrats that the GOP has no issues to run on. Taking Trump off the board would do wonders.

also, Roger mentions no war being a big deal. I think 75 billion in tax dollars for Ukraine is a pretty big deal, not to mention the threat of nuclear annihilation or even the lesser never ending U.S. involvement at some level.

I see that Rachel Maddow has suggested that the DOJ should dismiss all charges against Trump in exchange for him dropping out of the Presidential race. I wonder if that hasn't been the goal all along?

I am definitely not in favor of charges being dropped for trump. He deserves to go to prison! I wouldn’t shed a tear if that soulless devil had the big one. I wish the democrats had someone younger that was a viable candidate as I think Biden needs to retire.

The economy is a big issue here as prices are very high. I am definitely against forgiving student loans and talk of reparations is one of the stupidest things I’ve heard in a long time.

If the evidence is anywhere near as strong as the indictment suggests letting trump off the hook seems like a really bad idea, both from a "we are a nation of laws and no one is above them" standpoint, and from a "don't politicize the DOJ" standpoint. Especially since on the latter point doing this would hand the 2024 election to the republicans. Thankfully the DOJ doesn't take advice from political pundits.

well, Hillary was certainly let off the hook for her violation of national security with her home server set up and her elimination of thousands of messages, so it’s not like there’s no precedent for it.

I just think it’s interesting that Democrats Rachel Maddow and apparently Joe Biden who must be backing this Trump federal court action, consider him enough of a threat that they want to smear him or eliminate him.
