    Camping Food and "gorp"

DH and I are going camping next week, and I am thinking about what to take. Truth is, we'll be staying in a cabin with a stove and refrigerator, so we aren't exactly roughing it. It will be chilly, so I'm thinking of comfort foods that are easy to make with ingredients that travel well. Any ideas?

Also, I'll be making "gorp" to take along on hikes. What do you put in gorp besides nuts, raisins and M&M's?

    Trail mix:
    - other dried fruits (cup up larger things like figs, prunes, and apricots). Dried cherries are a tasty addition.
    - various kinds of nuts and seeds. Try pepitas!
    - I don't use M&Ms, but I do use chocolate chips sometimes.
    - homemade granola.
    - coconut flakes (Bob's Red Mill - this is larger than shredded coconut and unsweetened.)

Meals - stove and refrigerator, you can cook anything! When we stay at our friends' cabin (with stove & fridge), I pack easy-to-cook meal ingredients into a cooler for the long drive, already prepared. Chopped veggies, spices for each meal in a container, etc. That really cuts down on the cooking time while we're on 'vacation.'

Here are a bunch of trailmix recipes from Backpacker's contest

Your favorite soups made from root vegetables.

Also take things that can be eaten in different ways depending on your desire to cook on any given day.

For example if you take a box of granola, you can eat it
    1) uncooked
    2) dipped by the spoonful in a second bowl of hot milk
    3) as cooked oatmeal

If you have apples and a few baking ingredients, you can eat them
    1) raw, sitting by the fire
    2) baked and then sprinkled with butter and/or cinnamon after baking
    3) as warm applesauce
    4) in a pie
