What's the differenece between navy beans and great northern? Are they interchangeable? When do you use them?

I generally find them to be interchangeable. From what I've read, great northern beans have a slightly lower glycemic index.

I also use them interchangably. Either one make a good full-meal pot of beans, can be added to soup recipes, can be mushed and seasoned for bean dip, or be dressed up for barbequed or baked beans.

I prefer Navy beans (don't know why), but grew up with both on the table.
