the sun oven from sun oven international now comes with an option to get racks and use it as a dehydrator. Has anyone tried this? I would love to dehydrate some garden produce but don't want to spend a ton of money on a dehydrator that uses electricity. Is there a homemade alternative to drying in the sun you have found?
I don't knew if I can help with you questions, but that is a pretty cool oven! I use an electric dehydrator. The drying racks are enclosed so bugs and animals can't get into it. I've heard that can be a problem. I have a friend who does passive dehydration with what is basically a wooden shelf painted black with plastic screening mesh for racks. There are probably plans for something like this on the internet. At least in our climate, the passive method takes him longer...a few days if I remember correctly...compared to my electric.
