I could not agree with you more Rozie. Tracking is all about being mindful. I reached the crossover point back in 1996, so I have the choice of whether I work or not. Despite that I have continued to track both income and expenses and to use the 3 questions when making decisions on how to spend my money.

Many things have changed in the economy since 1996. My goals and needs have changed a great deal in that time as well. FI is a process that in my view is a lifelong journey. If I had not continued to track, I would not have known my status as my path took different turns through the years.

My strong recommendation to everyone is if you have began tracking keep doing it. You have already done the hard work in setting up your system. Keeping it going requires very little time and the benefits are limitless.

We still track money coming in and going out. It keeps us focused.

I don't track anymore because I have simplified my life so much that I have very few things that need to be tracked anymore. So now I just have a basic income-in/income-out kind of general idea of my finances and am less concerned about WHAT I actually spend money on. For me it's easier to just allot myself a certain fixed amount each month and live within that amount. But I did track for many years when my finances and life were a bit more complicated and it was invaluable.
