I forgot to mention. It doesn't snow here. For me that trumps the ability to grow lilies. Obviously, though, everyone's mileage may differ.

Here is an interesting article about 4 lilies that are native to California:

Here is a source for cut flowers, oriental lilies, grown in California--that is what I grow:

So maybe you can grow lilies in California?

Are you kidding? The snow is beautiful, and then it all melts away, clearing a path for the lilies! The best part of winter is it makes you so happy when it's springtime!

Noooo! The best part of winter was when we had three years of drought so instead of winter we had six months of springtime those years.

California Paradise? Three people in Fresno were killed for being white and it immediately made me think of this thread.

Sure, some species will grow in the mountains. Some. But see how many times the author mentions "hard to grow" under cultivation. Species aren't the hybrids I grow.

Now Iris, they like the dessert. You can grow Iris in California.

Correction: 3 killed today plus 1 on a previous day.

I cannot copy and paste links on my tablet but pick the news source of your choosing. Everyone is reporting it.

I googled it. And it appears to be true. Sad, sad racism.

Huffington Post is not covering it.
