I am in the age group that watched the Monkees, rushed home after school to see Paul Revere and the Raiders, etc. Still like their music. Was a big fan of Steppenwolf and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Loved the English rock bands as a kid.

How about those novelty songs?
I loved them as a kid:
They're Coming to Take Me Away HaHa!

This isn't a novelty song, but fun song, and iconic, too: Hair from the musical, "Hair."

No shame or embarrassment for any band/music I love I stretch from the 60s through the early 90s and some through the current artists. Not into rap or hip/hop. Was never a Lawrence Welk style fan but watched/listened with my parents as a kid.

I learned to like rap music when my boys were in high school. So Eminem and Tupac make me happy. And I’m a feminist.
Yeah, my kids helped keep me a bit "in tune" (excuse the pun) with the music scene over the decades. I came of age in the 60s, but definitely enjoyed a lot of 70s--both decades I was most into Beatles/British Invasion music and folk music. Even today, I ask Alexa to play me 60s folk music, and I'm usually happy for hours.
80s are a total blur. The only songs I remember are the 80s songs that our lunchtime aerobics instructor played every day when I worked at Union Carbide from 83-85. Cheers, Livin' on a Prayer, Call Me. Stuff like that.
90s, my kids at least made me aware of Grunge Rock, and in particular Kurt Cobain. And I also came to LOVE Radiohead, and I still do. Thom Yorke is a genius.
But my kids became adults more or less in the '00's, and so I'm back to oblivion in terms of pop music except for what I have seen on American Idol.
