View Full Version : Missing Malaysia airplane
Any ideas? I've always wondered if whoever was flying the plane knew how to avoid radars, and flew it somewhere to land. But then, if they landed, where are the passengers?
I can't imagine being a family member and having to go through this.....
I suspect foul play. The information now seems scant and contradictory, but it's getting sorted out and there are some very suspicious events and indications it may have kept flying for a long time after it disappeared.
Wouldn't it just be wonderful if all those passengers were still alive somewhere?
It's all just really awful. I want to be hopeful..........
I keep thinking of Lost. Then I remember the ending...
People inexplicably missing are a fascination of mine, and this one seems to be a real puzzle.
I have the feeling they're checking out islands/land where the plane could have landed, but they're not saying it. Supposedly, it had enough fuel to get to the Andaman islands and India. Seems like you'd have to have a pretty big landing strip though.
I heard some guy on the radio today opining that a meteor hit it. He had some credible background, but as I was driving while listening, I didn't keep it in my brain. He said he had spoken to pilots who report numerous close calls with meteors and other debris. He said anything traveling at a meteor's speed hitting a plane would demolish it into bits.
I dunno...I still fear foul play.

A lot of pilots reports close calls with UFOs, too. At least to trusted confidants.

"Captain Terauchi cited in the official Federal Aviation Administration report that the object was a UFO. In December 1986, Terauchi gave an interview to two Kyodo News journalists. JAL soon grounded him for talking to the press, and moved him to a desk job. He was only reinstated as a pilot years afterwards, and retired eventually in north Kanto, Japan."
You can see why they're rarely reported.
It does look like foul play, but concrete information is in short supply.
The newest information indicates the two separate communication systems were shut down separately. One of them required.specialized knowledge to shut it off, as it's not something your average pilot would know.
If it were some kind of routine emergency (if there is such a thing) surely there would have been some kind of communication. One of the latest conjectures involves lithium batteries in the baggage compartment. I can't believe they wouldn't have counter-measures in place in case of fire. And again, why wouldn't the crew convey that? A mystery.
I also believe it's a deliberate pilot or co-pilot act. One of the 9/11 hijackers also knew to turn off the transponder.
We'll know better if/when they find the cockpit voice recorder, but it's also possible they'll never even find the wreckage.
One expert on CNN insisted if it broke up over/crashed into water, there would absolutely be wreckage. Also, there seems to be a lack of "chatter" from the usual terror-related sources.
But if it was terrorist act, which I tend to believe that it is, why hasn't any group taken credit for it?

I think it's gone and won't be found and there won't be an answer.

Likely you are right.
It's hard to imagine that something so big, with thousands of people looking for it, could disappear without a trace. People go missing all the time, but...
That's why I think whoever took over the plane, knew exactly how to avoid radar and flew it somewhere to land. I haven't a clue what they would use the plane for...........but it has been suggested that it might be used for something else. And what would you do with all those people?
A U.S. aviation expert said that it had recently been determined that the plane could have gone north or south. If it went south, there is no place to land, and if it crashed there, that ocean is so big and deep, that they might not ever find it. How horrible for the families of these people. I guess in the area that this plane went missing, it was between radars, and they don't use satellite in that area. I wonder if this will encourage them to do so in the future.
Could something happen like what happened with Payne Stewart's plane, have happened? I haven't watched any of the coverage, it's just too sad. It lost cabin pressure so quickly there wasn't time for any contact or anything. It flew till it was out of fuel 4 hours and fell with such force in a spiral it created a large 42 ft crater (it was a small plane)
I cover (relatively) breaking news, and now the Malaysian Prime Minister is saying they're searching the Captain's house and it appears that the plane was deliberately diverted and flown for several hours off course. The Thai navy has just called off their search, and Malaysian authorities now no longer believe the plane went near northern Thailand.
I heard that the pilot had his own flight simulator in his house. That must have cost a fortune.......and slightly curious. Although there are people who just are really into their profession.......but it makes you wonder if he was learning more than the average pilot for some reason....

A pilot with a flight simulator in his house? That's weird.
A co-worker's husband worked at the local telco and basically had a miniature switchroom in his basement. Taking your work home.

No, Payne Stewart's was on autopilot when they suffocated. The transmitters were not turned off, just no radio response.

It most certainly didn't have to cost a fortune. While there are ones like the military uses, that roll and pitch while in them, there are others, at civilian airports, that are basically giant video games (at best). Between those and free games like X flight, one could be had for the cost of the computer, the joysticks and the rudder pedals.
Thanks for that info TMS.........I guess I was picturing the big ones that can roll around.
I have to say......there's alot about the U.S. that irritates me at times, but if one of our planes went missing, I think it would have been handled sooooooo much better than this has been handled. That's a good feeling.....to feel like we have so many capable people here and resources.
I really can't think about the pain and distress too much, that the family members must be going through. My son is on an airplane right now, and I would be like that woman they're always showing in the news who is screaming and collapsing. I just can't fathom the agony that all those family members are going through. My heart is aching for them.
I think they should have been searching land all around there too.......not just ocean. It's all very strange, and I still hold out hope for them all......
