I just wanted to post an update here. Thanks to expanded Medicaid, I have been able to start physical therapy and I have to say it's really helping. I have a greater range of movement and I don't dread getting up like I have been - it's not quite as difficult. Chalk me up as an ObamaCare success story - without this more than likely I would have ended out living on painkillers as an illegal alien in Mexico. No drama at all there - just reality. I'm very grateful I am not going to have to face that reality now and I will also keep up with the home exercises to keep progressing.

Still looking into getting a different mattress.....have not had time to get to that hotel furniture liquidator for a used sleep number bed. On the list.

Picked the rest of the oranges in my yard and am taking them along with soaps and shampoos collected from my Motel 6/Super 8 stays over the years and am taking them down to a homeless shelter along with some clothes I will honestly never wear. I'm doing something - something anyway - to give back. Also will ask about working up to eight hours a week as a volunteer, I know there is a food bank downtown that could probably use me.

And last - tomorrow I'm digging up my first beets and I'm so excited! I'll be taking pics and if there is somewhere here I can upload them (?) I will be glad to do so. That would be so cool if us gardeners could upload pics of our success! Rob

All great news and good things, Rob! Yes, I too finally have access to health care after close to a decade of going without--other than the most rudimentary of care--and it has made such an enormous difference in my life. Literally, the medical care I receive now has saved my life. Good for you, and good for you for being a mensch! :)

Great that things are working out. It just occurred to me that you started a new garden and then had back pain. Is it possible that overwork in the garden (bending, digging, lifting) triggered the back pain? That has happened to me a couple of times after not doing those things for our 6 months of winter (and it doesn't just go away overnight once triggered). Anyway, something to consider next garden season - start slowly and work into it.

Good thing to think about, Also something to ask the physical therapist. (how to get better and improve/not injure self, so you can then do more, which may lead to better able to work that contributes back, etc)
Learn what to do to improve and how to work smarter.
