My finances are becoming squeezed so I am making plans to reduce spending where I can. But, one solution is to find a 2nd steady job. I actually enjoy food shopping and thought to put in an application at the local Stop & Shop for weekend and holiday hours of work. I find the quality of service strong at this chain and thought I might fit in.

The application process is only electronic. I can access the site but they require placing a Social Security Number. I stopped and did not continue. I am concerned about giving over this information on-line. Would you? It's awfully confidential and I do not know where it is going.

I would be surprised if any job application did not require a SSN due to employer requirements to establish legal status. I might be wrong but seems like common sense.

So, you have to decide between your privacy and your search for a job of any kind.

Personally, I would have no problem.

I would do it. If you applied in person, they would probably turn around and put it on the computer anyhow.
I hope it all works out for you!

Start with some questions such as does the web address start with https? (s being "secure", won't stop man in the middle attacks, the NSA, spyware on your computer, etc).
Does the site your going to, either a: is their site, or b: is on their local lan? (doing it at their location).
Do they have a privacy policy listed (already bound by legal requirements, but if using some other service, like a background checker, should be listed in the policy)?
