Hello everyone,

I shall introduce myself. My name is Chris; I’m 28, and I live in Bordeaux, France.

Long story short, I understood our current society was doomed while witnessing the aftermath of the crash of 2008. I was lied to, indeed my generation was lied to ever since we were in kindergarten. We were sold the concept of perpetual economic growth, which of course is sheer chimera...

There is no point in running after a society that is a relic of the time gone by. I have also realized that the happiest moments of my life occurred when money wasn’t involved at all. I find that interpersonal relations are much more sincere and intense when not bound by money and social status, but instead bound by the simple pleasure of each other’s company.

Best to all,

Welcome to the forums Chris and hope you have an enjoyable time getting to know this community. An exchange of ideas and some good advise is what you will find here, and I am sure you will soon be contributing some of that yourself.

Bievenue, Chris! I know the feeling about being "programmed" throughout one's childhood and adolescence to be a happy little consumer/cog in the big economic machine...and I'm 48! In my era, it was "Reaganomics," which went: work hard to keep the rich REALLY rich, so their riches will "trickle down" on you and you can become one of them. Something "trickled down," all right, but it wasn't money! :) Joking aside, welcome to a great group of people who enjoy lively discussions and exchanging genuinely helpful and sincere advice and support.

Thank you for your nice welcoming.

I was curious, what was the event that motivated you to adopt a simple life?

Welcome, Chris. In answer to your question, I was always fairly low-key in my wishes but really cranked up the frugality when I wanted to retire earlier. It has worked out very well for me.
What steps have you taken towards the simpler lifestyle to date? Where do you intend to be in the next decade or so in the path of simple living?
