View Full Version : Has anyone tried a nootropic supplement?
Hey, wondering if any of you have tried a nootropic supplement before like Cerebral Success in this review (http://muscleexpand.com/cerebral-success-review-my-personal-review/)? I'd like to hear your take on what you think about these kinds of supplements and if you've taken them, what kind of experiences you've had...

I had to look it up , but I would try getting it from the actual food before I took a supplement.

Just my opinion. Would like to hear also if anyone has good results from the supplements.

Thomas32 Checked out your blog, My brother would have liked that when he was working out. Nice job with it.
I try to eat a wide range of food and do not use supplements. Unless you are including chocolate, then, yes, I successfully use supplements.
Hey Jilly, what kind of foods do you eat for 'brain boosting capabilities' or improving brain function?
Hmmm. I guess I eat as wide a range of food as possible. At age 67 I do think about diminishing cognition, but the only thing so far is the occasional misplaced keys. I put my phone down somewhere last week and it made me wish I had a way to call it on my own. Last night I was reading on Yahoo! techie stuff about a tag that helps you locate whatever you have tagged (I am thinking for my phone :), but you have to use an app on your phone with the tag. Yeah.
I eat lots of greens. They are inexpensive and easy to eat because I like them so much. Any vitamin K vegetables, although I do not like any of them as much as greens. Fish because here it is less expensive than other flesh. Two items and I am already seeing that cost is a concern of mine.
Let me think. Tomatoes, mostly canned. Nuts, mostly walnuts and almonds. Berries in season. Pumpkin, keeping and very lightly roasting the seeds for snacking.
Spices, a lot of the curry ones. Salmon is too expensive unless the market has those little 4 ounce individual portions on sale. Not the best quality, though it is nice to have it once in a while. Darkly colored food, including chocolate, for the antioxidants. You know, that old adage about eating the rainbow. I put cinnamon on lots of things. It has been some time since I intentionally read about this, so I am relying on memory and habits developed over the years.
It helps that I have a decently functioning brain and my memory is excellent, except for the occasional phone or key lapses. I have a weird talent for spelling; I can close my eyes and see the word. One of my jobs is in a library and people, including staff, ask me for spelling and definitions because I am faster than a search. I should exercise more, that would help. I read and do puzzles all the time, like every day. I take naps. I garden. All of my jobs are challenging and I love things that engage my ability to seek unusual and creative solutions for my clients. Another job is working with homeless DV victims and their children. I really think that the work aspect of my life helps to keep my brain function as good as possible.
Even if I could see my way to buy supplements, I most likely would not unless some specific one, at a therapeutic dose was determined to be helpful. Looking back on what I have written, it seems as though eating a wide range of foods and seasonings is more likely supporting my brain, as opposed to boosting anything. Maybe I should try to read more about this. Although, I will probably find foods that will not fit into my budget.
Another thought is that I am smart enough to be me, so perhaps that is enough. :~)
