I saw Chris Christie was trending in Yahoo, and I always liked his name, and the flow of the first and last name together. So, this is a totally random thread, but do you know anyone with interesting first/last name combinations?
My grandmother once told me about her neighbors, the Fursts, and when their daughter was born on April 1, they named her April, which seems like a really cruel April Fool's joke, unless the joke was on me when my grandmother told me about it.
Then there's Kanye and Kim who named their son North West.
Any others?
Seriously I have known a Richard Richards, a Russ Russell, a Kellie Kelly who happened to marry someone with the last name Kelley, and a John Johnston.
I also find Dr names interesting. Dr Bonebreak was an orthopedic surgeon , my fertility Dr was Richard Stiff.

Haha!! I read a Reader's Digest article about funny doctor names.
My vet, ironically, is Dr. Mann. Too bad my GP isn't Dr. Dogg.
When my son had to go to the dermatologist for his acne, he thought the doctor's name was Dr. Pop'em, when it was really Dr. Papa.
When I was a teenager someone in our town had the name Richard Phallis and I always thought it was hilarious. Dick Dick.

In Scotland, you often find people with the same first and surname due to our traditional naming practices. It is more common to find this in the male lines. In my own family I have a stuart Stewart (note the subtle difference!) a Xander (zander) Alexander and a Gregor MacGregor! These all rejoice in the auld Scots 'by-name' (nickname) of 'Twice'!
I've lately noticed what I think of as "all-American" names: Soledad O'brien (journalist), Dominic Chu (reporter), Heidi Zhu-Castro (reporter), Soleil Ho (feature writer)--names that reflect unique combinations of ethnicities.
The ongoing fad of conferring on your offspring the most ridiculous and/or misspelled moniker you can come up with is laughable at a distance, but must be a burden to live with.

I love a LOT of the quotes in the movie L.A. Story with Steve Martin, and I love the part where he asks what Sarah Jessica Parker's name is, and she says "SanDeE*, big S, little A, little N, big D, little E, big E. With a star at the end."
Ishbel, I actually know a guy whose nickname is "Three" for the same reason! (I love Gregor McGregor)

That's funny. I should check out that movie, LA Story. I love Steve Martin. My first tap and ballet teacher's name was Miss Tapping. She owned a dance studio in Seattle, Margaret Tapping's School of Dance. Yes, I took tap from Miss Tapping when I was three years old.

Great name for a dance studio, for sure!
Definitely check out LA Story--I think you would really enjoy it--there are a lot of kind of insider jokes about the LA culture (I'm assuming you've lived in LA for at least a little while, given your career in dance/acting).

I had a roommate in college, Candice Kane. I could not believe her parents deliberately named her Candy Kane.
And a good friend of the family is Russell Raymond Russell.
And a work colleague named Christ Christ, III. Pronounced Crist.
And I know two brothers named Patrick and Michael, because their mother was Irish and loved all the Irish jokes about Pat and Mike.
I remember another friend I had, Penny Cash.
I've heard some pretty ridiculous ones over the years from working with medical records...but my all-time favorite one was a copier repair man I knew whose name was Ben Dover. His sister's name was Eileen. Really.
From the aforementioned group, some witty parents called their child Crystal; their last name was Ball.
Another Krystal Ball is a political commentator whose physicist father worked with crystal structure, thus her name. I guess that's less problematic than Green Bay Packer Ha Ha Clinton-Dix...

I have had a lot of doctor with odd names: Dr. Safe, Dr. Wise, Dr. Payne (!) and Dr. Miracle.
It must be difficult to go through life with a funny name, but at least people remember it!

OMG, that is funny...as is iris lilies' Richard Phallis!
How about a dentist whose name is Dr. Hollar?
Our dentist is Dr. Payne -- and he's amazing :D
And a friend goes to Dr. Doctor. An MD, not a dentist ...

I had a friend from childhood called Richard Mort. He was ribbed unmercifully when at his all male school where the British tradition of calling the register by surname then forename meant his Mort, Richard became 'dead dick'.
There was a guy in my town named Dick Peterlick. I didn't believe it when my husband told me so I looked him up in the phone book, and he lived on Saeman Avenue. My husband worked with a guy named Randy Virgin.

Oh, this is too much! Dead Dick is bad enough, but Dick Peterlick on Saeman Ave is to die for funny!
My son went to grade school with a girl named Argentina Turner. I loved that name! I have family living in a somewhat rural area where it isn't totally uncommon to find someone with the name Baby Boy something or Baby Girl something.

When women get married and take on their husband's names it can be funny, too. One time I asked my daughter if there was every anyone she dated that she knew she would want to keep her own name if she married them, because she didn't want their last name. She said, well, not really, maybe just Matt Whitney.
I was thinking Whitney is a nice name--why would she not want it, until I put her first name with his (her first name is the same as the famous Ms. Spears)

I notice initials a lot that spell things. I was born JAJ but almost became a JAR by marriage but instead when did get married I became JAM (much sweeter that JAR).

Good thing there wasn't two girls. Extended family, was going to name her second daughter, Ella (Vader).
Boss bought some losing Superbowl rings from the former av guy for the Bronco's, his name is Rusty and his daughter is Penny Nail.
I know there are others, but those are the ones that pop to mind. Then I have a couple of friends with famous names, one of which has to use a different name with the band he plays with for legal reasons (Joe Walsh).
I knew an attorney with the last name of Swindle, and another with the last name of Profitt. They joked about forming a law firm with another person, so they could be Swindle, Cheatem and Profitt.
Went to an eye doc as a child who was named Dr. Iatesta. Have a colleague named Peri Winkle.
I attended a comedy show last weekend where the comedian was also a substitute teacher. He was literally begging parents in the audience to quit naming their kids unusual names because it's driving the teachers crazy. He had two girls named "Danica" in his class, except one pronounced it DAN-i-ca, and the other pronounced it Da-NIH-ca. He joked saying he'd told the two of them to get together and decide how to pronounce it because he wasn't going to try to remember that all year!
Lainey, have you seen this college humor skit with the sub teacher who can't pronounce names right? http://www.collegehumor.com/embed/6858305/black-substitute-teacher-cannot-pronounce-white-names there is a bit of language but it always gets me laughing.
I thought of some friends we use to be in a dinner club with, we had the Hookers and Crooks. Every month Mr Crooks would say "well at least we have the Hookers and Crooks present, it ought to be a good time tonight".
Float On, when I got to Israel I changed my first name to a Hebrew one. Now my initials are SAG! Ouch...too close to home at my age!
Float On, that skit is too funny!
Many years ago my sister had a friend who had to abandon his small side business of selling wooden nameplates for kids' rooms because even parents who were giving babies common names were spelling them all differently! Who can keep up??

What a funny connection! I too have a friend that had a huge wooden name business and that was one of the reasons he closed his business about 5 years ago. The large machine they use can cut 12 plates at a time....but isn't cost effective if your always having to do one-offs.

A teacher friend was called into the office when a woman wanted to complain, because nobody ever got her daughters name right and she thought it was insulting. This is a real problem when naming a kid something unique, etc.
Her daughters name, spelled the way she spelled it. La-a
Her daughters name she said was Ladasha.

Oh Man! I just can't stop laughing! That's too much.
Oh, I just thought of one---my favorite ballplayer name: Coco Crisp. He's an outfielder for the Oakland As.
I don't really know of anyone with a funny name combination but I did have a friend when I lived in a small town in Canada named "Sparky Wandler". I always thought it was a nick name but it was actually her real name. A little boy who lived next door to us was named "Boy" for his first name (as in Boy Jones). The parents where from somewhere in the deep south and I guess it's a common thing there. Now I live in a Vietnamese community and so there are lots of funny ethnic name combinations that, in English, mean something....er...quite risqué! My Laotian next door neighbors were named Sweetie (husband) and Cheeta (wife). Kids had "American" names.

Although if I were him I think I would have moved. At least the mailperson probably got a chuckle every time they delivered a letter to him on that street.

Several years ago I had to do a round of business correspondence with a Thomas Kent. Which is a pretty ordinary name. But he lived on Lois Lane.

I remember years ago reading that Michael Jackson named his baby Blanket. And that Gwyneth (sp.?) Paltrow named her child Apple. I thought that was so weird...
Yep, I think "Blanket" or "Apple" are better as cute family nicknames, not your legal name, but I know times are changing.
I understand that back in the 1940s and 1950s the priests insisted on the traditional names, preferably saints' names, for baptism and/or confirmation names. Family legend is that one of my sibs was supposed to be named Veronica but since the priest didn't approve, it was changed. No way people would tolerate that stuff now.
I think Michael Jackson's kids real names are "Prince Michael the First" (i.e. called Prince) and "Prince Michael the Second" (called Blanket). The Daughter is named "Paris" and called Paris. I think Apple is Gwen. P.'s daughter's real name and she has a son but I don't know his name - something Biblical I think (Moses?). I personally like unusual names (and my real full name is unusual) but to name two of your kids after you with an honorific in that name is a bit too much. Maybe Blanket will go by Michael as he gets older - Prince, Paris and Michael Jr.

Catholics are still supposed to use a saint's name for the baptism. But it can be either the first or second name. I was at a group baptism where a little boy was being christened. The name his parents chose was Scott Thomas. Since Scott isn't a saint's name, the priest used Thomas during the baptism. The parents were surprised and not very pleased--I think they weren't told this until the baptism ceremony had started. The priest should have handled things better, IMO.
But there is a St. Veronica, so I have no idea why the priest would have forbidden the use of the name.
