View Full Version : I feel so stupid when.............
Someone is reaching out their hand for something, and I think they are wanting to shake my hand, and I shake their hand. Then I realize they weren't trying to shake my hand. Then I feel so stupid.
I did that yesterday when I was leaving the eye doctor's. He was just making some sort of gesture and I thought he was going to shake my hand. Makes me feel really stupid. !Splat!

haha!
I had one on a recent business trip. I keep my boarding passes on my mobile phone, and when you go through security, you place it face down and it beeps and they let you through.
So, I did that, and then I got to the gate and you have to show your boarding pass again as you board, so they had the little machine there, so I placed my phone face down, as I did when I went through security. The attendant looked annoyed and she put her hand out, face up. I looked at her, confused. So she put her hand out again, face up. I was still confused. So I put my hand face up next to hers, a gesture that made no sense whatsoever. She said, "Your phone! Your phone!" Then I got it, while people were grumbling behind me, that I was supposed to put my phone face UP, not face DOWN.
Why couldn't she just say that? Why the Charades?
I felt stupid, too, Cathy!

The credit card scanners in our new local grocery store are annoying. I never know when to scan my card. If I don't do it at exactly the right time the transaction will be corrupted.
Fortunately after feeling stupid a couple of times, the (very nice) checkers let me know that they were often confused about it, too.
Now I just say "Please tell me when to scan my card" and they do. The checkers are hired at this store to be uber friendly. It's also extremely unfortunate that the option to 'round up my money to the nearest dollar, giving htat change to the local police society is usually corrupted in the transaction. I would always round up when given the choice, but the system screws that up. The owner of the store is a neighborhood businessman who also was on the Police Board and we are all big police supporters.
Any more I blame 'most everything on programmers. A message "Please scan your card now" is normal in other systems, can't see why this one has to be different.
LOL catherine! You just thought she was playing "Simon Says", right? :)
You're right.......she should have just said it with words!
You should have given her a different hand signal... :laff:
When yesterday at lunch a friend lost her key's. After 10 minutes of disrupting others lunches and searching everywhere, I found them in my purse! I must have picked them off the tray by accident.
I had to take my car to get an oil change, and it's right on the bike path for the town I work in. I brought my bike so I could ride from there to work (it's a long commute so couldn't just go from my town). I'm not super-familiar with the bike paths in work town, however, so I turned around at least twice getting to work. I have a pretty bad sense of direction, and always feel stupid when I have to turn around. I was pretty happy I managed not to get (too terribly) lost getting back to the mechanic shop! Nor leaving the shop for home, which has happened more than once.
I did this exact thing a few weeks ago with a midwife!! She was actually reaching for my medical notes... I just tried to laugh it off! Don't feel bad; you're not alone :)

Rosie, I usually get lost when going to a new place. I refuse to get GPS so there it is, my fault.
Recently I had to find my way to a new place, in a suburb that nearly touches the city. Not far at all. By the map it looked easy-peasy--yet the road I chose to follow just stopped, it ran into a T. So of course I chose the wrong direction, that's pretty much what I always do. Then I pulled over and looked again at the map and honestly, it was not enlightening, so I randomly chose the opposite direction which turned out to be right.
I got there only 10 minutes late.

... when I (publicly) tried to set up my BF's brother with another guy and it turns out the brother is straight! I have known this guy for 9 months and was so sure he was gay. So totally awkward .... for everyone involved.
When, I tell people how many times I have moved.
