Just wanted to say hey and howdy after 13 days of hospitalization.....I am back and this time (Finally) without a gallbladder. I checked myself into the hospital on Sunday, May 11th and was discharged just a few hours ago. Along the way there was a cancer scare, numerous tests, and an infection at the surgical site. Good news here is that while i still have pain, the nature of it has changed - it is only up and down and along the incision - not that radiating widespread pain of having a lousy gallbladder that I had become so used to. This kind of pain can heal and go away. So I have a lot of optimism that this time is a keeper, that this will be it. Rob

Glad you're ok, but sorry you had to endure all that. I've got ridiculously large gallstones I need to get dealt with soon, as they are causing me pain more and more frequently. Good reminder that I should make an appointment soon....

Ihamo- please do not wait on having the stones or gallbladder itself removed. When DH had his removed the stone was a big as an egg. It broke through the gallbladder when they took it out, he went to the ER about 6 hours later because he could not breathe. Had a collapsed lung from all the messing around they did to find the stone and get all the gunk out. Gallstones are nothing to wait on.

Jeez, Rob, what the...?! So glad you are all right! There should be a word to describe the feeling one gets when we hear of a disaster befalling someone we care about and then immediately hearing that they are all right...all I can say, though, is YIKES! + Thank goodness! + WHEW! :0!

Gosh, I'm glad you were able to get treated and are recovering. I hate to ask but will your insurance pay all/most of the cost?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. After my own gall bladder ordeal I felt like I had a new lease on life. There's nothing quite as nice as not being in pain after a prolonged period of being in pain. Of course, the aftermath of surgery has its own discomforts, but at least you know those are going to subside.

Be well.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words and good wishes. I am home recooping and am able to get up and get around a little. All I can say is I'm glad I've saved some money over the years, the extra cushion is coming in very handy right now. As to this recent illness, it sprang up seemingly out of nowhere - one day I was fine and the next I was sick and unable to hold down food and in pain again, and I checked myself into ER once again hoping for the best. I just didn't think I could make it down to Mexico realistically. There are things that happened during this hospitalization that I don't especially like but the end result is that I was able to get the surgery I needed and I am grateful for that. The pain and inability to hold down food are no more - I just have to have my incision/wound heal, and that is going to take some time. I will also have a scar but hey it will give me character! Just glad to be doing better.

Something else interesting is one of the doctors ran some tests and it turns out that I am not producing enough thyroid hormones - I have hypthyroidism. This was a bit of a surprise but I have done some online research and it sure fits and I'm glad to see that this lack of energy overall is not all in my head. I had believed it was just the result of years of waiting tables and dealing with that insanity. Glad to see there's a medical explanation for it. And a med I can take to hopefully get the energy back. Rob

Gosh, I'm glad you were able to get treated and are recovering. I hate to ask but will your insurance pay all/most of the cost?Yes. This time around I triple checked and I should be OK - after the recent drama with the possibility of my not even being covered, I called the state Medicaid agency and checked with them that I was covered and then I called the HMO to confirm this and both said I was current, covered, and OK. I also called both on my way out the door and both once again said I was current, covered, and OK. So I'm thinking that barring errors, I should be OK here as to bills.....Rob

Glad you are fine now! 13 days in the hospital is a long time so you were really sick. I don't know anyone that got all their energy back by taking thyroid meds. Most are just permanently tired.
