View Full Version : Anyone cook baby bok choy?
I grew some of this from seedlings, but it grew fast. I guess it's time to eat it. I think I'm just supposed to quickly saute it in some oil, garlic, chicken broth. Some recipes call for oyster sauce, etc., but I don't have any.
How do you cook it?
Usually with other veggies with garlic, maybe ginger, some soy sauce and sesame oil. None of these truly necessary, but they do make a nice combo. I've also used it in soups, or other stews.
It goes very nicely with garlic! You don't have to do much to it, it has such a nice taste on its own. Beware overcooking it.
Clean. Slice in half. Big frying pan with butter and garlic. Salt at the end.
There is an Asian market that always has them. When I get to that city, I buy a lot and eat it for every meal. It is also good cold, like leftover cabbage.

I often just clean and fry in a little sesame oil in a Le Creuset ridged pan. I like the slightly charred flavour.
I've stiry-fried it too--I've seen recipes/demonstrations of it being halved and grilled, but haven't tried that.
I don't always cook it -- it's really nice in salad. Likely not as salad all by itself, but it's a great addition to mixed greens.
