View Full Version : Hey..............that was MY idea!!
I have a reading problem. It's just too hard for me to track across a sentence. So awhile back, I asked my son to figure out how to put just one word at a time in the middle of the computer screen, to see if I could read better that way. He said it would be too hard.
Today on Charlie Rose, I heard the inventors of this new reading system describe it. The "Spritz" method.
Here's a link to it.
I can't wait to see if it helps me.

Gee, you should have gotten a patent!
I attribute my reading skills to the nuns who taught me in Catholic school. I remember we had something very similar to the Spritz method, where there was some kind of projection on the wall for our eyes to track, but instead of showing only one word at a time, it would show you small groups of words so that your brain got used to digesting more than one word at a time. That's how I read now--I can read very fast because I see groups of words instead of individual words.
And that was in the early 60s, so this Spritz method isn't all that revolutionary! But it looks like it's perfect for you!

Hey Cathy - we saw that on Channel One school news. Several of my students were pretty excited about trying it (when they get out, lol).
Man, DH could have retired if I'd just made the move at the right time. haha
It will be interesting seeing if it helps me.
I have sooooooo much trouble reading, but I type like a speed demon. I LOVE to type. I don't know why it comes so naturally to me, when reading is so hard. It feels like a percussion instrument to me.
Funny......but in high school I dropped physics and trig, and took up typing. I'm sooooo glad I did. I was a secretary for a number of years. I don't think I would have gotten a job in physics or trig. haha
Cathy and catherine, very interesting.
I'll be interested in what this system does for Cathy A.
Here is the concept I was taught: clustering. http://lifehacker.com/5976764/cluster-words-together-to-improve-your-reading-comprehension-and-speed
I know our teacher used a projector of some sort to show us the reading material in clusters of words that went progressively faster--I'm sure it was low-tech by today's standards, but I guess it worked.
