Yesterday in my city two perps grabbed a teenage girl outside of her home, forced her into her home where--oopsey! her mom and dad were there, waiting, with guns. One perp was shot dead, the other is injured.

This will likely devolve into another gun control discussion, and towards that end I'd like to say that I am today happy that gun laws allow honest citizens to own guns in order to take down the criminals who will always have guns.

This incident is all too much like the one that happened in a nearby neighborhood where two perps surprised two people outside of a house, took them in at gunpoint, rousted everyone else out of bed, did deeds that included killing a mom in front of her children and then rounded them all up to go to the basement where they would be shot. At that point adults fought back bare handed (one a small female cop, the other a fireman) and they and others survived although were injured. One of the perps hurt his hand in that process and took himself to the hospital where a savvy nurse kept him while calling in the suspicious injury to cops. He was immediately arrested. But this was a horrifying tragedy.

So yesterday was a huge victory, 2 perps down, no one else injured.

Yesterday we had an abduction of a 16 year old girl at knife point near my neighborhood. She managed to free her bound hands, get a hold of the knife, stab her abductor in the shoulder or chest and then escaped. He's still on the loose. There are some tenacious people out there.

I read about similar stories all the time but they rarely go on the news except as a small blurb in the local paper - unless the assailant/s are killed by the armed (or unarmed) homeowner. Most seem to be about a home owner deterring a would-be robber or rapist who enters their home and then flees once they see the homeowner is armed. This happened recently to an almost 90 year old woman in the next 'hood over. Guy broke in, she had a shot gun, he ran away ...fast :-)!

Why is this post in the Spirituality/Religion section? I think there needs to be a gun section on this forum for the gun enthusiasts.

My error, sorry. I moved it to the forum where it belongs. Thanks for pointing this out.

Well, so...has there ever been any proposed mainstream gun control law that would prevent honest citizens from owning guns to protect their home, self, and family?

I like the way you added "mainstream" to that question.

But I'll let someone else answer that, I've learned that these discussion get into nitty gritty of technical aspects of guns and I can't respond to that.

If by "mainstream" you mean "passed into law and enforced", yes.

I just click the "What's New" button so never see which forum a post is in. Since there are certain forums I rarely or never look at (Spirituallity being one) I'd miss a lot of new posts if I didn't do the "What's New" thing.
