I just responded to an offer from Chase for their "Freedom" card. Need to spend $500. in 3 months and I'll get $200, and will also get another $25.00 for adding my husband as an authorized user. No annual fee. Not bad for 5 minutes of effort!

This is really tempting. I am thinking though that I might get in trouble with a credit card, as it always tempts me to spend ahead, outside of my budget. But that is an amazing return!

I have that one. They gave me 20,000 points when I opened it and it's come in handy already. I spent those points on $200 in Best Buy gift cards; these will used to puchase my Virgin cell phone minutes for almost 10 months worth of use. It comes at a great time when work has been slow. Now I don't have to worry about that $20 a month until next May.

You also get 5% back when you use it for gas. I usually pay cash but I'll have to see if it's worth it to spend 10 cents more per gallon to get 5% back.

Hey Pony Mom, that was a smart way to translate your bonus into something that would really help with daily living expenses. We do typically charge our gas, so this might be the card to put all our gas charges on (although I was really just interested in the sign-on reward).

The Best Buy gift card was the most useful one to choose from in my point range. Of course, a flatscreen TV would be more fun, but the phone cards are definitely a better choice.

Chase just raised my credit limit as well. My charges are automatically deducted from my checking account, which saves me money on stamps and I'm never late paying my bills. For many years I couldn't get a card because I had no credit history (from paying it off every month). My last CC company dropped me; luckily Chase has all my money already so signing on was easy.

When I'm checking out customers at work, I notice quite a few Freedom cards and the people all rave about the points/rewards. Never really looked into it until I received an email telling me how many points I had.
