Maybe the whole world already knows this, but I just discovered it today. I was having a major problem peeling eggs today, no matter how I tried. Then I got a tablespoon and slid it under the shell, and it always came off easily! Can I patent that method, or am I the last to know about it? :~)

Coincidentally, I just made a big jar of pickled eggs. I finally found success piercing the bottom of the eggs and steaming them. The water seems to be able to get under the membrane and loosen it that way. Your method is a new one on me, and I'll have to try it.

Never heard of this either but I am all for anything that makes peeling boiled eggs easier!

I plan to try it myself next time I hard-boil eggs - thanks Cathy. We have chickens, therefore fresh eggs, and I always have a terrible time peeling them.

Hey Jane.........I've never heard of that. Do you just prick the bottom with like a needle, and then stack them on a steamer thing in a pot? How long do you steam them for? Do they end up any different than the boiled kind?

I tried a teaspoon and it didn't seem to work as well as the tablespoon. I was so excited! hahaha (Doesn't take much to get me excited).

Same here. If I want to hard boil and peel eggs I buy them from the store. I've not found any easy was to peel fresh eggs, I just persevere.

Someone in the forums awhile ago recommend steaming the eggs for twenty minutes and it works like as charm...

I use this handy tool, though a good sized needle would probably work:

I try to steam for 20 minutes, but often forget. They come out fine.

Thanks everyone! I'll have to try the steaming method.
Would they explode if they weren't pricked first?

I have never had problems peeling even fresh eggs using this method:

Boil in water with a bit of salt and vinegar.
Once boiled, immediately crack the egg on both ends and put into cold water. Let it cool for a while and then crack the shell and roll the egg on the table. Peeling is easy and I don't get chunks of whites attached to the shell.

I will try the trick with spoon .. sounds like it might be faster :)

No, they won't explode. I think piercing breaks the membrane and lets water separate it from the shell.

Yes, I tend to use something like that method. I peel while running warm eggs under cold water, after having rolled them to crack them up. Most of the time it works pretty well, but it's not foolproof by any means, so I'll keep a tablespoon ready the next time! Thanks, Cathy!

Ha Ha - well being a lazy person I have to admit I buy mine already hardboiled and peeled at Costco. It's about $4 for 24 of them. I only eat the whites myself but use the yokes to add to my dogs food or sister uses them (we buy a package and split them). Although when my sister hardboils her own eggs she does something called "scaring :0!" them that she found on the internet. Not sure of the process involved but you can probably look it up. Hers always come out perfect, easy to peel and don't have that greenish tint they sometimes get.

I recently heard someone talk about cooking their eggs in the oven. Place one each in a muffin tin and bake at 325 for 30 minutes, then place them all in cold water for 10 minutes. She swore that they peeled completely and evenly afterwards. I've been meaning to try that.

Nope, made it back home this afternoon, although I've had my iPad with me all week so I've been able to check in each evening.

Haha.........I just pictured you trying to text while driving your cycle. (I knew you wouldn't do that though)
I hope you had a good trip!

Actually, it could be pretty easily done. We have bluetooth intercom systems with speakers and microphones in our helmets. They are capable of pairing with other devices such as our iPhones. With Siri, I can compose texts by voice command while keeping both hands on the handlebars. I've never done that, but I have made and taken calls while riding.

We did have a good trip, the weather was beautiful, the scenery was spectacular and the various campsites were tolerable. lol. Thanks for asking.

Wow....that's pretty amazing about the helmets. And you can talk to each other without screaming now. That's a great invention. Glad you had a good time!

Steaming is the way to go! I use a red plastic tool to judge when eggs are done. It turns very dark red from the inside out so you can cook soft boiled eggs as well.
I, too, crack and roll eggs before peeling.
