I just found a Vita Mix at a garage sale. It only has a "dry container". Does this mean it can only be used to grind grains and dry things? Do I need to get a "wet container" to do smoothies. Newbie here. Thanks!!!!
Good news. I went back and they gave me the "wet container". It does need to have a bearing and will go back today because they said I can have the book that goes with it as well. My DH looked up the parts and it should cost around $30 to fix it so everything works. Not too shabby!

Not sure as bout the containers, we just bought a new one and also have one from 1991, we have found the company very helpful in selling replacement parts so you may be able to buy that canister from them. How old is this vitamixer and does it work right? : ) chris
Well, we got the Vita Mix working and did spend $35 total. It is totally awesome. The first thing I tried was 2 carrots with an apple and 1 cup of water. It was AMAZING!!! I have tried a few other things but need to go this week and get good veggies to try more. Also, today we made orange sorbet. It was very refreshing and took about 30 seconds. Using 2 oranges, ice and honey was about 4 servings. I put some in the freezer to try later.
Then on Friday we were at another garage sale and I was talking to a woman who is moving and told her how excited I was about "scoring" this Vita Mix. She said she had one to sell so I am picking it up on Tuesday. I know a number of people who may want it or I may just sell it locally. I will try it out and see if I like it or the one I already have better. Wow... I looked and looked and now 2. Go figure?

Wow, you really got a great find! We bought ours New for about $400.00. Some things we have been making are Orange Julius, chunky monkey, fresh grapefruit and we plan on making an evening drink of apple, carrot, beet and kale. The citrus in the morning is blood and body cleansing. The items in the evening are blood building according to a great juicing book by Steven Blauer... Have fun!
TM... Our library does not have books by Steven Blauer but have gotten a few others that were good. The Big Book of Juices and Smoothies by Natalie Savona is good in that it tells what foods contain which vitamins and what to juice for specific ailments. Also liked The Green Smoothie Bible by Kristine Miles.
