Very interesting time at work lately.
Found out Friday that the GM has *finally* approved us getting a new person in my dept. We're also getting the temp from a couple of weeks ago back for next week to help with filing and such. The warehouse supervisor quit. Someone quit in export. The logistics manager is on the verge of quitting. Several of our long term temp workers in warehouse were let go because they're illegal immigrants with falsified documents (through temp agency, we didn't pay them directory). We've got one girl on vacation. Someone else left early due to not feeling well after a dental visit yesterday. Someone else called in sick today. I've never seen someone take so much sick time before. She's going to have a "come to Jesus" meeting on Monday, it seems. In talking with my old manager today, I found out the GM has essentially run our branch into the ground, as he did with the one he came from (that only came out after he left there) and goes toe to toe with CEO daily. It's only a matter of time before he's gone, which is likely in late August/early September, due to reasons I don't want to mention publicly. It should be an interesting time when it goes down!
My department lost: one person in January due to health issues (she had to get a less stressful job), one in March fired for cause (she was replaced by a temp that is doing well), and another in late May due to retirement. GM said the numbers didn't justify hiring another person, but pretty much everyone in the department has been working 50+ hours for some time, lately it's been 60+ hour weeks for some of us. There have been mistakes which cost the company money, but when people are overworked, there will be mistakes. My immediate manager said she's glad these mistakes have happened because it boosted her case that we needed another person.
On the other hand, I'm getting tired of the high cost of living here in my area and I'm considering moving back to where I grew up, in about a year or so.
