I've been thinking about getting a new toaster. Our present one is messing up and it's just so big, and we don't have alot of counter space.
We need a 4 slice toaster.....that is as small as possible. I'm looking at the Cusinart 4 slice for $45.00. It's pretty small. But like so many reviews.......people either love it or threw it out the window the first time they used it.
I just saw some toasters online for $400!!! I don't think so!
I have seen one that's long and narrow and has 2 long slots, that would accommodate 4 slices........but I wouldn't want the whole thing to heat up, for just 2 slices.

Anyone happy with their toaster, and it doesn't take up much counter space?
Thanks.

Hi, CathyA--
Just wondering, do you have a toaster oven? When I was looking for a toaster, I'd gone through two, after reading careful reviews and shopping for weeks! For a toaster?

Then I broke down and got a toaster oven. I wanted one because the broiler on my oven is a little dicey, and it's just me, so I didn't want to put in a lot of energy into cooking. A friend of mine has never had a toaster, just a toaster oven.
Well, then, I gave it a try, and I have to say I've had the best toast, and a broiler to boot. Yes, it takes up some space, but if you already have one, or don't want to raise your electric bill every time you broil, it might be an option. They're so cheap, nowadays, but they worked far, far better than any toaster I've ever had.

By the way, if you really want to save space, you could also consider a camping toaster that folds up and that you could put on your stove burner. I went so far as to get one, but it terrified me. Easy packing, however.

(None of my remarks helped, did they?)--Susan

When you check the reviews, note the number of negative and positive reviews. There's no such thing as perfect. Someone will always dislike something. But if something has 1,000 positive reviews and 100 negative reviews, it's worth looking into. Far more people are tempted to write negative reviews--so if something has a great many more positive reviews than negative, that's saying something.

Then check the negative reviews for why the reviewer doesn't like the item. Sometimes it is as simple as they wanted a push switch and the item has a dial.

Then check into the warranty the manufacturer offers and the return policy the seller offers. Make sure that repairs for the first year or so are covered, and/or that the seller will take the item back for a full refund.

There are lemons in every batch of everything that is made. Make sure of a good warranty and return policy and buy something with decent reviews.

Our 30 year old toaster finally died about 6 weeks ago. We decided to go without for a while and see how that went, although after just a few weeks we determined that we missed toast more than I thought we would. Last week, at Krogers, we saw a small 2 slice, no frills toaster for $9.99. It is now taking up a wee amount of space on our counter and all is again right with the world.

While I'm thinking about it:

I was given a toaster overn years ago, and I wish I had a spot in the cabinets for it (like a microwave cabinet). There is some things I think I would prefer it then having to use a large oven for. (speed, amount, etc)

I was going to ask if you had thought about getting two, two slice toasters, for when you actually need four slices? (daily on the counter, other inside a cabinet)

But if you have money to blow, you could sign up for a Bugatti toaster, that even does steak, shrimp, etc:

supposed to be close to $1000.

Alan, I haven't heard that song in years.:laff:

Maybe I'm just lucky with toasters. We're only on our second one in 21 years in this house. This one is 10/12? years old, a Proctor-Silex cheapie purchased at Wal-Mart for I think $7.99, and it's still going strong. Does just what I need it to do and nothing else.

I LOVE toast. Food of the gods, it is.
