View Full Version : Does anyone have a Retiree Medical Savings Account?

My DH is increasing to 25 hours per week at his job, which makes him benefits-eligible. We'll keep medical & dental through my employer because my employer offers better plans. His employer offers a Medical Savings Account which my employer does not, and it seems like a really good deal. They will match him 50% of the first $1500 he puts in the account, and they guarantee tax-free interest of at least 5% on both his contribution and their match. He'll be vested after 5 years, and he can use the account to pay for qualified medical, dental and hearing expenses after retirement or termination. Does anyone have one of these? I'm wondering if qualified expenses include most logical things, and I'm also wondering if he can start using the account once he hits 65 even if he continues working there (it's a low stress job that he enjoys, so I could possibly even envision us both working there part time someday and beyond age 65).
