View Full Version : Alan..........tree frogs?
I think you said you had tons of tree frogs, right? Just wondering......I had them at the beginning of the summer and haven't heard a peep out of them since. Are you still hearing them?
This is very unusual not to hear them, especially when we've had regular rains. Maybe they were afraid we'd have another drought and they shot the wad in the spring?? :~)
I haven't been hearing them these past few weeks. My youngest grandson's job is to re-locate any he may find in the pool to the small creek behind our house. He gets a quarter per frog and it's been a while since he's been paid.
I'm thinking it may have more to do with the unusually cool temps we've had lately.

Cathy - we have a small frog pond with tree frogs, but here in California they are really only in concert January-April. I thought that was the mating season but maybe it's the weather. Ours do come back every year.
Thanks Alan and Gardenarian. They haven't been this quiet in awhile............oh wait.....they didn't do much in 2012 with the drought, but they still would intermittently pipe up. It's funny........in the past years, when I would go out to water the flowers/herbs in the back yard, they would start singing. I don't know if they hear the water, or smell it. I could also get them singing by imitating their song.
I remember going to camp one summer when I was little, and when we went to the pool in the woods......there must have been hundreds of little toads?/frogs? in the water. We swam anyhow. We just had to be sure to keep our mouths tightly closed.
Alan, I hope a few more show up at your place, just for your grandson's sake. :)
