Forgive me for being cranky but I just don't sleep well on full moon nights. I think the moon pulls me to the back yard to dance under it's light and I spent the night tossing and turning and moving from bed to sofa to recliner and back again instead. When I finally fell asleep I promptly fell out of bed because I thought I was on the sofa and turned the wrong way. I should of joined some friends who went kayaking to watch the moon rise.

Funny to read. Do you go through every full moon or just the 'super moon' phases?

I was really disappointed that we had cloudy skies last night. I would have loved to have seen the "super moon".
When I worked in the E.R., we all really dreaded a full moon! We would spend the evening running pregnant ladies up to the O.B. floor.........or dealing with drunks.....and other crazies.
It was really noticeable.
I hope you didn't hurt yourself falling out of bed Float On!

It was beautiful.. when I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to walk the dog, it was still lingering in the sky.

The Perseids were nice too, even with the bright moon.

I didn't sleep well last night, either. That must be why. My dance teacher could always tell when it was a full moon. I was her asst. and she'd ask me, "Is it a full moon?" The kids were wild at that time of the month. They would get so hyper and rambunctious...

CathyA, I bet it was really noticeable in your work in the ER!

You definitely should have joined your friends on the water, FloatOn!

Oh wow........almost forgot about the Perseid. They're usually around August 12-14. I'm not sure I can stay up late enough to see them tonight. I do get up early, so maybe I'll look then.

It was a beautiful night and I did end up sitting outside for awhile to watch the moon over the ridge. And yes...every month full moon my sleep is messed up. Lots of energy. I missed the perseid. I think it was too bright!

Probably at least 30 years ago, when I was working as the head nurse in a newborn intensive care unit, one of the daughters of one of the pediatricians did a study for some college class she was taking on whether there were more babies delivered on full moons and whether more of those babies had problems(and ended up getting admitted to the NICU), whether there was more infant deaths etc.. She did a look back over the 10 years prior. There was no difference whether there was a full moon or not. No difference at all. We all thought there was, but it probably was that we were more aware of the moon on those days than others.

[snip] There was no difference
For a year, I worked at both a doctor's office and a suburban hospital emergency room. Even without looking at a calendar, you could tell when it was full moon. That was about the only time we saw gunshot victims at the ER and weird injuries like the fast-food worker who somehow lodged a sliver of potato all the way under her fingernail. Hardly ever saw that weirdness at other times....
