A couple months ago I got this great opportunity to participate in the live recording show for the CBC radio show "Grown-Ups Read Things They Wrote as Kids". I didn't make the radio cut, but my friend took a video of my performance.
I read this totally random thing I wrote when I was about 14 or 15. It was the intro for a Star Trek Choose Your Own Adventure book, but that has very little to do with what I actually wrote.

Doing the reading was one of the highlights of my life so I wanted to share it with my SL friends.

If you like podcasts I'd highly recommend this one. It's hilarious. You can get the radio show/podcast from CBC Radio or itunes.

That's funny, very well done!

The long bit about title pages was really funny. How old were you when you wrote it? If it was said, I missed it.

I met Dave Barry some years ago when his band, the Rock BOttom Remainders, were in town for a charity concert. DH drove them from their hotel to the performance venue. I was tasked with working the hall set up which included preparing their books for purchase. He has such a baby face! He was in his 50's at the time and looked like he was 35 years old. He was goofy and always joking around.

Thanks for watching, IL. I was around 14 or 15. I remember writing that piece pretty clearly, unlike lots of my other childhood writing. It's so weird thinking back 20 plus years - if I'd known that I'd actually read that on stage - pretty wild if I'd known.

That was fun Kestra, thanks for sharing! I love DB. I remember reading "Big Trouble" on the subway and trying unsuccessfully to squelch my laughter.

I remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books but don't remember that they each had unique introductory material. Did I understand that right, this was an intro to one of those books?

My plan was to write a Star Trek choose your own adventure book but I got so into writing the intro that I didn't write the actual book at all. (Though I eventually wrote 3 other novels) . And no, in the real books there was no long crazy introduction. That was all me just riffing randomly.

That was great Kestra!! Being nearly deaf (even with hearing aids) meant I had to use the closed captioning which didn't always work right so couldn't make it all out. But was funny and I like the idea behind it. I think it would be pretty cool to do that.
