View Full Version : Joan Rivers On Life Support...
And no one seems to care! Robin Williams kills himself, because life isn't being good enough to him,and it's all boo-hoo. But, Joan Rivers goes in for a minor procedure, and ends up on life support. She may not make it. Yet, no one is gushing all the sympathy they did for" Mork". It is all "Ewwww--she's a bxtch!" "Karma rears its' head!" That kind of thing. The Media obviously dislikes her, on a par with Andrew Dice Clay or Don Imus or Rush Limbaugh. Maybe she should have retired years ago; obviously we don't like old people, either. Maybe Robin Williams was depressed about that, do you suppose?

What/who are you listening to? I don't get that impression at all. How do you feel about Joan Rivers? That should be all that matters.
I suspect the media silence is because her condition is being obscured behind words like "resting comfortably." and "serious condition," which is several steps down from "grave." Time will tell.
I am not too happy to see either of these celebrities pass. Rivers was entertaining in her prime, but I've lost track of her. According to the news, it's claimed she makes offensive(politically incorrect) jokes. But, what a comedian says in a nightclub in a particular locale VS prime time TV can be a world of difference. Yet, I almost never fail to be offended by whatever is on TV, these days. Frankly, I'm too old and cranky to deal with all this ZMedia-borne advocacy for social change, violence, &.,"news" that is just brainwashing people. And yes, Jane, I believe that you are correct. She was revived, and put on life support, probably too long after the fact.
I don't have much patience for her brand of humor, but she has to be one of the hardest-working people in show business--especially for her age.
I don't care for her somewhat racist comments so I try my best to ignore them but she has done a lot for shut-ins and I think HIV positive people in NYC with bringing them meals on wheels. I also think she did something for helping animals. Try to find the good, always!!!

Exactly. We're all hoping for the best so no need to write the obituary yet.
I do think she is probably on life-support. You don't arrest at a clinic and have a good outcome, if you're not immediately resuscitated. I wonder what the real cause was? Maybe it was a stroke or a heart attack. I have the feeling they were keeping her alive, until her daughter could make it there.
I wasn't crazy about her humor either, but have sympathy for her and her family.
In the first report I heard the reporter said something like "and then they noticed she wasn't breathing." !! I thought that was extremely odd--didn't they have her hooked up to a monitor? I wonder how long it was before someone noticed that little detail.
I've got a bit of an on/off relationship with my girlfriend.
I keep messing around with the plug on her life support machine.

My husband has Barrett's Esophagus and routinely goes in for ablation and/or biopsies. He's always terrified, not of the procedure, but of the anesthesia and the prospect of not coming out of it. I keep reassuring him that it's a very common procedure and very, very little risk, but he tells me that it's a numbers game--the more you go under, the higher the risk of something bad happening.
I'm telling you, this incident with Joan Rivers isn't helping him feel any better about going. I'm just grateful that he gets his done in a hospital.

I keep messing around with the plug on her life support machine. Even I, would not go near a joke like that. Not so much that it isn't funny, but because it is kind of self-incriminating, should you ever find yourself involved in a circumstance of a questionable death. Just joking, of course.

She died today. I wonder if there will be a law suit? I mean, she had a number of shows planned. She must have been feeling good and in good health. Very sad.

RIP. I, for one, will miss her.
With Robin Williams, I was saddened but I understood that he had had enough of this life. Joan Rivers wasn't even close to being ready to go. One too many procedures and the odds caught up with her. Maybe a hospital setting wouldn't have made a difference, but I think her age warranted one.
I agree Jane. One was a choice........one was not. On the news tonight they said some state medical agency (can't remember which exactly) was going to investigate her death. They referred to a "technician" doing the surgery. That sounded a little strange. But there's probably going to be lots of unsubstantiated stories out there, until we get the truth. It does sound weird though........at her age, not to have more safeguards in place.
I also agree with Jane and Cathy. I certainly respected Joan Rivers for her comedic talent and her ability to just keep going and going. It seems so sad that the night before the surgery she did a show in NY and the night of the surgery she was supposed to have done another show, and she was just unstoppable..at 81. It seems like such a waste. She probably would have lived another 10 years or more.
I admired her for her charitable giving. And medically speaking, I've heard that any surgery after age 80 is especially risky, more so than for younger people, so I'm also wondering what this elective procedure was.
I actually hope there is no lawsuit because IME some people are not accepting of their parent's age and actual condition, and so they channel their sorrow into anger at the medical people.
I was very disappointed that the outcome wasn't good, but don't find it quite as depressing as Williams' death. Though she apparently was still a very lively person, I read that she had admitted that at her age--the show she was doing could be her last. The risk of anesthesia--well, maybe she had to sign off on it before the clinic would perform the work, making them judgment-proof. There goes another one. Did anyone know that earlier this summer, (one of) the lead singers for The Association also passed? Larry Ramos, who made his home in Idaho and still toured with some of the original group on occasion. You kids prolly don't remember them, anyway.
