Will I have to help get it off the delivery truck?

No. They bring it to the door, and sometimes will even help you get it inside. I've had them offer to help it bring it inside if it is heavy most times than not.

I ordered a stereo system from California a couple of years ago and the driver brought it inside the front door. Can't remember if it was UPS or Fedex.

Thanks Birdie and SEL. This is a log-splitter, so it only has to go on the front porch. I was just afraid he'd ask me to help unload it from the truck. I guess I could say no......and then he'd just push it out and let it drop. :0!

Depends on how heavy it is. If they want to charge extra for lift-gate delivery, or ask if you have a loading dock, there's a clue. Or say "curbside delivery only".

Read the delivery policy carefully. It varies from company to company. Sometimes the regular shipping charge is for curbside delivery, and you have to pay an extra fee for someone to carry it indoors.

That said, the few times I've ordered something heavy, the delivery person has always at least carried it to the front door, and once up a flight of stairs to my apartment, without an extra fee.

I don't think there is a regulated fee. You can deal with the driver directly.

Depends on the delivery method chosen and the driver. 'White glove' will take it into the house/garage/wherever; some will take it off the truck; some say unload it yourself; but usually the driver will help somehow. I had a drill press delivered and the driver unloaded it onto the ground (fork life) but would not help get into the shop then another time I had a small but heavy heater delivered and the driver carried it into the house. A lot of the time, unless specified, it depends on the personality/mood of the driver.
