View Full Version : ISIS has grandson of DH's parents' friends.
We were incredibly saddened to hear on the news today that ISIS is threatening to kill the grandson of old friends of DH's parents. Both DH's parents and their old friends have already passed on, but their children and grandchildren still live locally.
It's very upsetting. He was doing humanitarian work in Syria.

They have beheaded an English aid convoy driver. The man was a taxi driver and joined an aid convoy for a local Muslim charity in his town. Many cabbies here are Asian (in the UK we use Asian to mean Indian/Pakistani or Bangladeshi)immigrants or their British born sons. These were his friends. Despite appeals from the leaders of the Asian community in his hometown, calls for his release by Imams in this country and a totally heartbreaking appeal by his wife only days ago, they killed the man.
In another instance only a few days ago it was revealed that a 15 girl, daughter of Somali asylum seekers, has taken herself off to Syria to join IS, presumably as a Jihadi bride, although noone knows that for a fact.

I forgot to say that I am sorry to hear about this young man's plight.
It about tears my heart out to think of some of the people who are in this only because they wanted to help people and now are being treated so viscously. I can't imagine any religion where there is a belief in goodness condoning this.
ISIS (and other similar groups) are just a cult of sociopaths, who get to live out their insanity with others who accept their deviant behavior.
Cathy, that's absolutely horrifying. There is a CNN lead story up right now about someone from Indiana and was wondering if it's the same young man. I can't imagine what the family must be going through.
Yes catherine.......that's him.
Was really hoping this could have a happy ending, but it didn't. :(

Tragic
I'm just sitting here, thinking: What can make people in the Middle East act that way? My thought is, if someone is genetically predisposed to an aggressive nature; is prone to fanaticism, and lived in an area where they continually witnessed terrible events and experienced the effects of extreme deprivation during their formative years(childhood), and; are not socialized sufficiently, that they probably are going to develop a sociopathic personality. Any three factors in the mix will probably suffice. They will lack empathy for others, especially if they view them as a threat. This is not to say that the middle east is the only place you find these type of people, so afflicted. Every time I read an online news article about pedophiles, or death-row inmates, etc.., or someone accused of an act that has been deemed heinous, it is usually followed with extreme comments by "law abiding citizens", demanding a fate worse than death for the accused--even stating specifics about what they would do to them if given the opportunity. All in the name of empathy for the victim, of course. Gun Nuts abound, maybe your neighbors, who are just waiting for someone to cross that line, so they can kill. See? So, Eye-for-an-Eye-- types are everywhere. It's just that in our culture, there are sanctions and rules of engagement that (usually) serve as a deterrent. Hope that helps you some. Thank Mee.
Packy, the killers in this recent case were supposedly not Middle Eastern fanatics, but European fanatics. I understand this even less. What would lead an average Western young person into a cult/gang with a veneer of religion, tainted by rigidity and prejudice? To behead a aid worker there to help people .... what a waste.
