Today's inauguration of the "new" tea/coffee kettle. Oddly, Le Creuset no longer makes this simple, no-whistle correct-sized kettle. I had to track one down from some backwater internet site frequented by collectors of obsolete new-in-box cookware. I didn't dare tell the nice lady who sold it to me that I intended to *use* it, she was so proud of the condition of the hang tags and the box... It was also the only one I could find last week in the entire nation:

The previous kettle, of the same exact model, lasted a bit over 25 years of faithful daily service. During descaling last week, I discovered there was very little enamel left in parts, and it was pitting into the rusting steel beneath. Boo hiss.

So it has been redeployed to a new purpose, where hopefully it will last a few more years humidifying the house:

You have got to love good quality products.

I bought two very small Le Creuset casseroles at a yard sale earlier this summer,
when I googled them I was very surprised at the prices. But, you get what you pay for them on line.

I notice that the new one is red, that means that it will boil faster. Red is always faster, like with red cars, you know? haha.

Good, very good. Well made products--yes! I was afraid that the old one was going out to the curb, but fortunately, it's been repurposed.

Ya, I'm going to take it down to the metal on the inside and tin it or something, should last forever in its new job that way.

That's a handsome vessel. I've never understood the lure of the whistle on tea kettles--surely one of the most annoying sounds ever.

The whistle is to wake up people like me who get absorbed when writing and forget everything. Whistles and timers are my life.

Two gorgeous kettles! I've burned too many out, whistles or not, to trust myself anymore with anything but an electric self-shutting-off model. A pity!

That's a beautiful red kettle. I'm in the camp of "forgot I put the kettle on and burned up another one" so I really like my electric auto/shut-off one.

DW and I are too hap-hazzard on our timing for tea so finally just caved and put in an insta-hot dispenser. Super handy to have 190* water available constantly with just the twist of a wrist. Being American we're entitled to instant gratification, right? As convenient as it is, it falls far short on the aesthetic scale. Just can't match the homey feeling of a kettle on the stove. Nice score bae!
