Okay, I am ready to do a major clothes dump. I think I will bag it for a month however, kinda scared that I won't get dressed again! or the clothes I sew will suck. But it is time,...

I'm in the process of doing a clothes inventory. Not sure how many pieces I ultimately want to get down to. I am fortunate in Oregon, I don't need clothing for seasons. I need warm clothing for about 45 weeks of the year, and then cool clothing for the remaining weeks:-)

Hey there Reyes - I'm moving to Oregon in a couple months (Ashland.) I'm from a warmer climate - could use some advice on that I'll need in the way of clothes.
Thanks!

Layers!
tank top/short-sleeved shirts with a cardigan. An added scarf.
t-shirts and zip hoodies. And a scarf.

These kinds of layers will probably be the least expensive option until you figure out your preferred wardrobe for the area.

Well, Ashland has the best weather of Oregon:-) I'm in Eugene where there is far more rain.

I am in Colorado, layers are good. And some good shoes instead of all sandals.

I am in Kansas. I understand the concept of layers. But it just doesn't seem to work with our weather. (1) summer: a pair of shorts, a tank top and flip-flops, and even underwear is too hot to have on. (2) winter: jeans, tee, flannel, heavy socks and shoes, and even then you're gonna get chilled and want more clothes or more heat in the house.

Zoe Girl: you go girl! with the getting rid of clothes.

Oof, I just did a massive clothes dump of my stuff a couple of days ago: six bags' worth donated. Earlier this evening, I got DH on Skype and went through HIS closet, showing him each item: keep, donate, or trash. We did it in less than an hour, and within 30 minutes I'd loaded the car with his six or seven bags of stuff and got his stuff dropped off as well. Whew!

I took six boxes of clothes and linens to the food bank this week. One third of it went home with happy ppl.

Rest will go to charity today.

I hope to give the Senior Center my KitchenAid mixer today. I just don't use it enough - it deserves a better home.

So AFTER the massive clothing dump I still have 10 pairs of pants, 2 skirts, 2 suits (those were great and free) 2 dressy jackets, 8 sweaters (cardigans short sleeve and long sleeves), 4 dresses, 7 work t-shirts and one hoodie (required when I am directly with kids), 12 short sleeve shirts and 16 long sleeve shirts/sweaters. I also have 2 pairs of slippers, 2 winter pairs of PJ's and 2 summer type PJ's. I bought some new underwear and then threw away ones that are too small and make me look lumpy.

My next step is to make sure that every item in my closet can easily have more than one pairing in the closet. And loads of reasons (they are not excuses) for boots and shoes. Of course you must have riding style boots, cowgirl boots, lace up boots, 2 pairs of heels, running shoes, converse in bright red, pink and grey (duh!) and some very practical and comfy clarks that I wear almost every day.
