Hi all, I got a jury notice for today and dutifully covered my job and showed up. Now I am on the jury for a trial that is expected to go through Friday. I am actually excited to go through the process inside court considering my interest in mediation. However there are some work tasks that cannot be put off or done by another person so I am still doing some work at night and on breaks. Payroll, that is a big one I need to do myself.

I was thrilled that it all went great the first day that I was out of touch, and then I checked email at the end of the day. One of the kids who comes to my program before and after school had a horrible morning in my program and then continued to have a horrible school day. I was out of the building, both the principal and assistant were out, and apparently the child flipped and was taken out in handcuffs. He ended up continuing the behavior and was drug out. Since there were no administrators we cannot tell if he was suspended or not. My staff was going to suspend him from our program but assumed he would be suspended from school. Deeply worried about the child, and I can't make any meetings for him due to jury duty.

So I will check in next week when I can talk about it.

Is it is civil or criminal trial? Also, I'm curious how old the child was to be taken out in handcuffs?

Wow, that is young for handcuffs. I didn't realize they cuffed children so young. With your interest in mediation, and a criminal trial, you might be interested in reading (after the trial:-) about restorative justice mediation (or maybe you are already familiar with it?).

Handcuffing an 8 year old kid sounds about as rational as shooting to death with beanbags a 95 year old man because he refuses to go to the hospital.

Or suspending from school a young couple going to Homecoming Dance who posed in a photo, taken in his own home and under parental supervision, with air rifles.Gun hysteria.

That is bizarre. How they the school suspend a student for a picture taken at HOME?

Gun hysteria.

I read it on HuffPo so it must be true. Anyway, I suppose that the powers that be at the school thought that their photo was threatening and disruptive to kids attending the dance.

the child a re$trained because of being out of control phy$ically and a danger to him$elf and other$, not under arre$t and i$ being $upported exten$ively by everyone to be in $chool and manage him$elf. The amount of effort going into $upporting him i$ impre$$ive, and on that day it kept him from further hurting himself
