"Find My Friend" app for iPhones?

DD was traveling a distance today in her car and I started thinking that since we both have iPhones, maybe I could check her progress. Googling it led me to "Find My Friend" app. We would both need to install the app. Just curious if any of you use this? And if you only enable it to see their intermittent progress, it shouldn't be much of a security risk, right?
What's your experience with this app?

It's secure, and it can be turned off when you're done with your need for it.

SO and several friends use this feature on Facebook. To me it sounds absolutely 100% horrifying. I would never ever consider using something like that. If someone wants to know where I am they can find out the old fashioned way. By texting and asking me.
