View Full Version : Pecans galore
We are having a fantastic pecan crop this year with trees all over the hood full of nuts. As usual, we have an assortmet of marauders who come in people's yards and help themselves without askiing. They will even break whole limbs off to get to the loot. One older couple uses a stealth baby carriage with blanket to haul their loot as they wind around the streets looking for good trees. It kind of makes me mad but I guess the yuppies who are moving in prefer to drive to Whole Foods and pay $12 a pound for "organic" ones so best that someone can use them. If I catch messing with my tree however...

It's amazing how many apples, pears and black walnuts I can harvest from neglected trees in yards, but I also ask permission first, and offer first picks to the owners.
Do you have any interesting recipes using pecans? Do you make/use pecan milk because it's really yummy stuff. I also love this recipe for SWEETLY SPICED CRISPY PECANS - http://savoringtoday.com/2011/01/20/sweetly-spiced-crispy-pecans/ I alter the recipe and use 5 T. palm sugar and only 1 t. cinnamon, but that's something that can easily be adjusted to taste.
