My grandpap used to have one of these. I would love to have a double oven...but I don't. I was wondering if a roaster oven would serve as a good second oven? Around holidays I'm always having trouble fitting everything into one oven.....especially since DD is vegan and has her own favorite dishes.
Anyone have experience with one of these?

Do you mean an electric table top one, like an oversized toaster oven? I have that and I'm totally unimpressed with it, it doesn't work nearly as well as my old tiny toaster oven. It does work well for keeping things hot, but making my nephew english muffin pizza took 35 minutes. Perhaps it's just this brand, it's a Farberware.

Or do you mean like a Nesco? I had a small one once, and it worked OK.

Yes, I mean something like the Nesco, or Hamilton Beach roaster oven.

They get good reviews--you can get separator inserts too, to cook multiple dishes at once.

I have a the hamilton beach roaster oven that I use on Thanksgiving to cook the turkey and on Easter to cook lamb or ham. It helps to free up the oven space. We're able to make gravy in it as well. Have had it for at least 15 years. It's stored in the closet the rest of the time. Why have 2 ovens when you only need it a few days out of the year? I highly recommend.

This link has a LOT of recipes for a Nesco roaster oven for some ideas of how people use them. http://www.nesco.com/recipes/?category%5B%5D=700&submit=Search

Thanks lessisbest!
It's a lot cheaper than doing a kitchen remodel with 2 wall ovens!
I'm proud of DD for thinking things through and living what she believes..........but it sure makes holiday cooking a lot harder! (Yes, I know we could just all eat what she eats, but I just don't like Tofurky).

Some kitchen appliances are well worth the cost and trouble to store: slow cookers, roaster ovens, rice cookers, and--for me--an electric pressure cooker. Oh--and salad spinners!

Evil woman.

I actually like salad spinners too, especially if I'm serving food to others who might not be so excited about watery dressing.

I've never used one personally, but we (family) have used one for family gatherings, so have several friends of mine. They are also used by some friends for entering chilli contests (have to make some to give and some to be judged, all in the same pot.
Kind of like George Foreman style cookers, handy except when it comes to storage.

Oh, now you guys have gone and done it...........bringing up "Salad Spinner"!!
( I use mine almost daily.)

Well, somehow we got a George Foreman grill and never opened it up. It's going to Goodwill tomorrow. And this "Snack N Sandwich" grill is going too.
I'll definitely keep my 2 sizes of crockpots. I do have an electric rotisserie that is nice, but I hardly ever use it.

Cleaning out without angst has been a lot of fun! I don't know why it happened. I guess I reached that tipping point and got soooooo sick of all this junk.
But.........now I want a roaster oven. :)

Never roasted a rib roast, but anything you put in an oven can be baked/roasted in it. I baked a lasagna in it once.

I bought a roaster oven for turkey a couple of years ago. I thought it was fine, but DH didn't like it becaused it "steamed" the turkey. I use it to feed a crowd when I'm making stuffed cabbage, saurkraut and sausage, and things of that nature. Works well as a warming oven, too.
