Going to PR end of January. Any tips for "reasonable" accomodations and itineraries? We are into hiking and nature.... beaches not so much. Thanks!

Visit the rain forest. Check out bed and breakfasts. Visit the Camuy caverns cave system. Go snorkling in Phosporescent Bay at night. Walk around Old San Juan in the daytime and shop. Rent a van and drive up into the mountains. Buy a barbecued chicken and some fresh bread, etc. from some roadside place.

I've never been there but wanted to wish you a pleasant trip. It sounds like a fabulous vacation. Enjoy!

All those things are on the list (except the chicken or staying at B & B) plus more. Thanks for the input!

Do you still need ideas on places to stay?
Loved the visit to Puerto Rico in March 2014. Go to Ponce and then San Juan and see what happens between the dry and moisture laden areas to appreciate the coffee plantations and fruit production efforts. Lots to see and do.

Good place to stay; good location, a low key place and near lots of stuff. My sister stays here every year on vacation. http://www.villa-antonio.com/#!about-rincon/c1ztv

This is a bed and breakfast where my sister stayed. They liked it. Bring your own shampoo and ice and cooler. Up in the mountains. No ac but at that altitude not bad. http://www.utuado.a-puerto-rico.com/casa-grande-mountain-retreat
This used to be a coffee plantation. I can send you pictures of it if you are interested. Ask for a room with a view of the mountains. Oh I just noticed it is on trip advisor, and there are photos there.

Just returned from trip to Puerto Rico. The weather was awesome! It is a place to go if you enjoy the beach, shopping and gambling. We went all around the island. We were disappointed in the lack of birds and wildlife. Beaches are not our thing. The highlight was the stay in the mountains.... beautiful. I am glad we went but will not return.
Glad you enjoyed your time but there are so many more places to visit.
