Thanks for the recommendation of the Homelite electric log splitter. We finally got one and it works great. And it's soooo quiet.
Just wondering.......it doesn't say what type of hydraulic fluid to use on it. Any suggestions for when we need to replace it?

Make sure not to mix types, so drain the old stuff completely.

I use Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid for most of my hydraulic tools that don't otherwise specify, haven't had any problems. And it's the sort of thing you may already have kicking around the garage.
