Just curious if any of you have used these on a regular basis?
What's your experience been? Seems like a good thing, to use things that can grow quickly for boards.
Wish I could use invasive japanese honeysuckle for something useful.

I finally replaced my 20-year old wooden cutting board 6 months ago, with a bamboo one - only because it was the only affordable one in the size/configuration I wanted at Wal-Mart (I would have preferred another wooden one). I use it daily. So far it's working great: a good cutting surface and it dishwashes fine. The surface seems rougher than wood to me - I've had a bit of a hard time getting used to it.

I wanted and got a glass cutting board - ease of cleaning :)

I've read that the bamboo is hard on knives.

I've read that the bamboo is hard on knives.

I seem to remember it having a hardness that was better then some hardwood. But that doesn't mean a lot to me, since there is softwood that is harder then some hardwood.
Glass is MUCH harder on knives, IMHE.
I've been picking up some stuff to redo my kitchen. I've got some smaller to mid sized bamboo ones (3 pack was something like $10), and one large plastic one (eventually I will probably make one out of Walnut or some white Oak shorts I have, but I want to use the plastic one to determine what size I want, first).
The old one I inherited, was square and looked like it was a cutout from some piece of furniture. Odd size, but my grandparents used it for decades, but it split.

I think quality is important - or maybe the humidity of your environment - I bought a bamboo one and it split within months.
