Never having had to go through the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta airport before, can someone please advise what is involved in moving from the international terminal #1 to the domestic terminal S. I arrive at 8:44am and depart at 9:55am. Is the baggage slow, how much time between terminals, is there a "train" or a walk and all those usual kinds of concerns?
TIA

The baggage speed is pretty good and there is a train to get to the domestic concourses. But depending on whether you come in to Concourse E or F there can be a lot of walking. F is the new dedicated international terminal but they still use the old one at E as well. From E it's quite long because you basically have to walk to the new facilitities at F. No train for that.

Won't you have to clear customs too? All that in an hour? Possible, but would not take much to go wrong to cause a problem.

ETA: I noticed you said terminal S. In ATL domestic runs out of the north and south terminal, which are really just 2 sides of the same building, but you wouldn't go there unless you were exiting the airport so it's not relevant on a connecting flight. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing some significance of that reference.

If you are coming from Canada one other thing to check is whether you are really coming in to the international terminal. It's been a while but if I remember correctly when I flew from Toronto to ATL we cleared US customs in Toronto which then let us land at a domestic gate in the US.

Yossarian is correct. I'm always amazed at the efficiency of the baggage handling in Atlanta. SO not like EWR. Yes, you take a train to the concourses and they are likewise very efficient and fast.

In terms of transport to the specific domestic concourse you will be going to, it will depend in part on the letter--they have domestic concourses A through E (as Yossarian alluded to).

I have never made international connections through ATL so can't advise you there.

I am flying to Jacksonville FLA from Atlanta and yes, coming in from Toronto. I might do some more checking locally to see if I clear US customs in Canada.
ETA that I am thinking of making do with a carry-on bag for the week of my trip.

That's the safest way.
