After 20 years working at the same wonderful library, today I retire.
I'll miss my friends at work, and the students, but it's been time to move on for a while.
So today is the party, the farewells, the cleaning out of my stuff. I just can't believe it!
On to the next stage of life!
Congratulations!! Excited for you! Best wishes!

Congratulations, I am sure this is a bittersweet event, but it's nice to commemorate such an important chapter in your life!

As wonderful as it is, I'm sure you have a lot of emotions swirling around in your heart right now. Be in touch with them all, and then get on with the next wonderful chapter in your life.
Onward to Oregon! (Oregon, right?)
Retirement can be a wonderful thing! Best wishes, Gardenarian.

Yep, next stop Oregon!
I'm looking forward to getting past the move. Right now there is so much going on in my life that I'm becoming a bit numb.
Once we're settled I can stop and ponder the changes, the past, and the future.
Congratulations. I hope you enjoy your new town; my son has suggested I move to Ashland as he would like to live nearby and loves the area.
At the old downtown lirrarrary,( a Carnegie building which used to be the Main Library until the suburbanites hijacked the name for the new one way out in Suburbia), there is a plaque above a fireplace mantel commemorating a Lady who was a Lirrarrian there from 1910 until 1950. 40 years at the Lirrarry! I wonder what she did to occupy her time after she retired, besides tidy up her modest cottage & pett the cats? She prolly didn't fly to Hawaii for a Luauuawa, since Lirrians lived on a very meager income, back then. Prolly Church Suppers, and weeding her Petunias. Lirrrains now are PROFESSIONALS, with a PHDLS and draw a gubmint paycheck, "commensurate with their level of Education and Experience." I just know it. They can afford to spend a week in Helsinki or wherever, for no good reason other than they've only been there once before. Times have changed.

Thank you all for you good wishes.
I also want to add that you probably won't see me around here much for the next few weeks, but I'll be back :)

Congratulations, Gardenarian. You'll be missed around here. I'm sure everyone at the library will miss you, too. Ashland sounds exciting!
I'm sure you have mixed emotions but it's exciting to move to the next phase of your life. The rest of us near-retirees will live in jealousy ... :)

Best wishes! It's kind of a big step, but the other side is really, really nice. :)
Nothing like a new adventure to generate excitement and anticipation. Enjoy the roller coaster experience.

Hey great new, OP!
I'll be joining you in the near future.
I know people don't like unsolicited advice, especially mine. But, you don't have to follow it, at your own risk. The first thing you need to do--the very first, after you cross the State Line into Oregon, is get Oregon license plates on your car. You might, if you can find one, put a "Don't Californicate Oregon" bumper sticker on it, as well. Another thing is, avoid at all costs starting every other sentence of every conversation with: "Back home in Callyfornya........". Subsequently, if you decide to volunteer or serve on local boards, run for local office, get active in Church, etc., don't tell them: "That ain't the way we did it out in Callyfornya...." every time there is an issue. Because that, will be an issue. Just pretend you are an Asian immigrant, and strive to assimilate, asap. Learn the language and local customs. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.

Hahaha--good advice, Packy! As a former Oregonian, I second that.

Amen---good advice. And don't complain about the rain.
I guess I should clarify something, even though it is my policy to never apologize, never explain. But, clarification is different. I honestly have a favorable impression of most Californians, even it may seem un-believable to stereotype what is possibly the most diverse group of people ever assembled on earth. Their likability factor is high. You better believe it, you better believe it. << that's what they say out in California. It's just that when they move back east, down south, or up north to get away from it all--they start a campaign to bring it all with 'em, and what happens is that in their well-intended zeal, they cause a backlash. That's all. Hope that helps you some. Later.
Congratulations, Gardenarian! There's so much out there to do! Have fun...........great times ahead!
