Packy, I am curious. You routinely refer to forum members as ‘kids’. Is it a term of endearment or are you really, really old??? As a frame of reference, as a child I attended a country school in first grade, at the ‘town school’ the next year, I took a sack lunch as we had no cafeteria and we had regular air raid drills; at home we had 2 channels on a black and white TV on which my older brother watched “American Bandstand” and I watched “The Micky Mouse Club”, we rarely had candy and even more rarely did we have soda. Now I’m feeling old. I’m just funnin’ with ya.

Well, back in 1959, I watched "American Bandstand" and enjoyed it, and also "Ozark Mountain Jubilee", which I detested like a sickness. You kids should know by now about my intense dislike of Roots Music. There is a YouTube clip of "Santo & Johnny" appearing on American Bandstand, playing "Sleepwalk". You were spot-on in your guesses--I am old enough to be everyone's Great-granddad, plus calling you "kids" is a term of endearment. If you will excuse me, I must go and watch "Santo & Johnny", now.

Gosh, Packy! I'm a baby boomer, and my great-granddad was born in 1860. If he were still living, he'd be aged 154.

My great-grandfather fought in the Civil War, so yeah, Wren, I'm with you!

Not my father, grandfather or great grand father but your are in the older brother camp. My brother was 10 years older than I when we did the 'American Bandstand/Micky Mouse Club' dance. When we got home from school, he would watch 'American Bandstand' on our one and only, black and white TV in the living room until mom called him to go to the barn and do chores then I watched the rest of the 'Mickey Mouse Club'. I always wondered what happened on the 'Micky Mouse Club' show in the first half hour. I vaguely remember 'Sleep Walk', I am more of a 'Lollipop' girl.

Gee, I thought you were my kids' age because you say "prolly" instead of "probably." Oh well…

And while we're on a "Packy" thread, my DH had an "Uncle Packy" who was Scottish, but Catholic (hence the name Packy "Patrick"). Kind of a black sheep in a family of Orangemen but still loved.

In New England, the "Packy" is the liquor store, so I guess I would consider "Packy" to be a term of endearment as well! :laff:

Packy as a form of Patrick is an Irish Catholic thing, obviously more prevalent in Eire than Norn Ireland!

Yes--I suspect DH's Uncle Packy was Irish, but lived his life in Scotland.

[And BTW, while we're still on the subject of "Packy", I didn't want to hijack another thread but I actually get a kick out of Packy's posts. He's funny. When I eat pizza I Thank Himm).

You--er-kids--are right. Good Job. My Grandfather was a Scots-Irish Presbyterian. But in middle-age, he converted to Catholicism. Also, his wife(my Grandmother) was an Irish Catholic. He attended services more than she did, back when I knew him. But, the deal is--they lived in a little Missssipppissi River Town. How do you like that? Also, I just saw a Youtube video where someone that gives good sound advice on fitness recommended drinking a glass of water mixed with a couple spoonfuls each of Lemon Juice and Apple Vinegar "with mother", which is unfiltered. He swore by it, but I can't find any credible evidence of it being beneficial. So, I'll make up something: Drink that concoction every day, and it will help dissolve the grease deposits in your vitals, caused by eating too much pizza and fried foods. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.

I also adopted an old idiom today, that I saw on these boards. I will be using it as one of my catchphrases--it is: "red flags". Hope that helps you some.
